Why a Guardian Home Partnership with a Breeder is a Positive Option for Both Dogs and Families.
At Legacy Cockapoos, we believe that breeding should always be about the health, happiness, and well-being of the dogs. That’s why we’re excited to offer a Guardian Home Program, a unique and loving partnership that benefits both our precious dogs and the families who care for them.
If you’ve ever dreamed of having a sweet, cuddly Cockapoo but aren’t quite ready for the lifelong commitment of breeding, a Guardian Home might be the perfect fit for you. Here’s why we believe this arrangement is so special—for the dog, the breeder, and your family!
1. A Loving Home for Our Dogs
At Legacy Cockapoos, we’re passionate about giving our dogs the best lives possible. Guardian Homes are a huge part of that vision. Instead of living in a kennel or breeding facility, our dogs get to experience life as part of a loving family. From morning walks to lazy afternoons on the couch, they thrive in environments where they get constant attention, love, and care. These dogs are part of your family, and you get to be part of their journey.
2. Top-Notch Health and Care
Our Guardian Dogs are handpicked based on their incredible health and temperament, and we only partner with families who are committed to giving them the best. As a Guardian Home, you'll provide a safe, healthy environment with regular vet visits, high-quality food, and plenty of exercise—all essential for their well-being. When our dogs are happy and healthy, it benefits not just them, but future generations of Cockapoos as well.

3. Ethical, Responsible Breeding
One of the things that sets Legacy Cockapoos apart is our dedication to ethical breeding. Through our Guardian Home program, we’re able to focus on quality over quantity. The dogs in this program are only bred a few times during their lives, ensuring they’re well cared for throughout their time with us. This helps prevent overbreeding and ensures that each dog is treated as an individual, not just a breeding tool. By working with trusted Guardian Homes, we’re able to continue our mission of producing healthy, happy, and well-socialized Cockapoos.
4. Improved Genetic Lines
Because we place our top dogs with Guardian families, we’re able to maintain a focus on producing the best possible puppies. Living in a home environment means these dogs receive lots of socialization and care, which results in healthier, well-adjusted dogs who will pass on those traits to their puppies. It’s a win-win for both the dog and the future generations of Cockapoos we bring into the world.
5. A Rewarding Experience for Families
Being part of the Guardian Home program is an incredibly rewarding experience. You get to raise one of our beloved Cockapoos in your home, and when they’re done with their breeding responsibilities, they’ll become your forever pet. It’s a unique way to have the joy of raising a puppy without the lifelong responsibility of breeding. You’ll be helping us create healthy, happy Cockapoos, all while enjoying the company of a dog that’s a perfect fit for your family.

At Legacy Cockapoos, we believe in doing things the right way. The Guardian Home program allows us to focus on breeding practices that are sustainable and ethical. It gives us the space to only breed from the healthiest, happiest dogs and ensures that we never over-crowd our facility. It also helps us focus on the emotional well-being of our dogs and puppies, creating a positive environment that fosters growth, happiness, and great socialization.
7. Building a Strong Legacy Together
By partnering with us as a Guardian Home, you’re helping build a legacy of well-bred, healthy, and loved Cockapoos. This is not just a partnership between us and you—it’s a shared commitment to the future of the breed. You’ll be part of a community of families that values high standards, ethical practices, and, most importantly, the well-being of the dogs we all love so much.
In Conclusion:
A Guardian Home partnership with Legacy Cockapoos isn’t just about raising a dog; it’s about giving that dog the life they deserve while supporting responsible, ethical breeding practices. It’s a way for families to experience the joy of having a Cockapoo in their home and play an active role in the development of future generations of this amazing breed.
If you’ve ever wanted to be part of something bigger, to help shape the future of the Cockapoo breed while also enjoying the love and companionship of an incredible dog, we’d love to talk to you about our Guardian Home program. Together, we can create a legacy of happy, healthy Cockapoos who will bring joy to families for years to come.
What Is A Guardian Home?
At the heart of our breeding program, our dogs are more than just animals—they're family. They live right alongside us, sharing our home, our hearts, and our lives. While they have an important role to play in helping us bring new puppies into the world, their well-being, happiness, and emotional fulfillment come first. Our dogs are never kenneled because we believe that a dog should experience a loving, family-centered life every day, not just when it’s time to breed.
We understand that many breeding dogs are sold off once their careers end, but unfortunately, that often leaves them struggling to adjust to a new home environment. That's why our Guardian Home program is so special—it’s designed to give each dog the loving, stable, and social environment they need from the very beginning.
How the Guardian Home Program WorksWhen we place a female dog in a Guardian Home, she’s welcomed into your home and heart starting from 1.5 to 4 years of age. During her breeding cycle, she’ll come back to us for a short stay (about a week) to be bred, then return to you for most of her pregnancy. She’ll come back to us about a week before her pups are due and stay until the puppies are old enough to be on their own (around 6-7 weeks) she can head home to her guardians at this point but she returns for our puppy selection day for the day to meet new puppy families. After her breeding career she’s spayed and retired into the loving care she deserves.
A female in the program will have no more than three litters in her lifetime, though we often choose to retire them after two litters to ensure their health and happiness. Our male dogs also play an important part—they’ll stay with you and be available for breeding when needed. After their breeding careers, they, too, will be neutered.
The Heart of the Program: You and Your DogWe place our dogs with families who are committed to their care and happiness. While we cover all the breeding-related expenses, the care and attention you give to your Guardian dog is paramount. These dogs are not just here for breeding—they are cherished companions. We are looking for families who will provide the same level of care, love, and commitment as they would to any pet.
Once your Guardian dog’s breeding career is over, they are yours to keep forever. No strings attached. The dog becomes a permanent member of your family, and the cost? It’s absolutely free.

What We’re Looking For in Guardian HomesWhile the upfront cost is free, we have a few important guidelines to ensure that our Guardian dogs receive the very best care possible:
🐾 A Secure, Physically Fenced Yard: Safety is a priority. A secure yard allows your dog to enjoy freedom while remaining safe.
🐾 No Service or Therapy Animal Use: While our dogs are loving and trainable, their role in our program requires them to stay within their assigned breeding cycles.
🐾 Experience with Dogs: We’re looking for families who have prior dog experience and are prepared to offer training, guidance, and leadership.
🐾 Transportation: A vehicle is essential for trips to our home for breeding, whelping, and vet visits.
🐾 Flexible and Committed: We’re seeking families who can be flexible with their time for those important moments, like breeding and vet appointments. A stay-at-home or part-time parent is preferred, but not required.
🐾 Willingness to Learn: We encourage Guardian families to either provide professional grooming or learn the necessary skills to keep their dog looking and feeling great.
🐾 Location: We’re ideally looking for homes within a reasonable distance (Woodville, ON, 2 hours or less for females and 1 hour for males).
🐾 Regular Health and Wellness Care: You’ll be responsible for your dog’s routine health care, including vaccinations, flea and heartworm prevention, grooming, and obedience training.
🐾 A Passion for Photos: We love to showcase our dogs on our website, so your dog should be comfortable with being photographed and sharing their beauty with the world.
